Normal Service Should Resume Shortly

June 30th, 2008

I have been swamped since we returned from vacation. First there was the usual - unpacking, laundry, children on San Francisco time bouncing around until 10pm - then at the end of the week items from my Etsy store were featured in several forums. Which led to demand. I am not complaining.

I went on a buying trip on Saturday and came back with less than I was hoping. But I did get some cute stuff and am working to get it online as quickly as possible.  I am not sure how I have so much energy on 5 hours sleep a night but maybe it’s because I am busy doing something I enjoy.

Tomorrow we are hosting a major play date, and on Wednesday my sister-in-law arrives for a visit - different but also enjoyable activities which should force me to slow down a little.

Normal Service should resume shortly.

Etsy hearts Steampunk

Wow, I didn’t realize Etsy was so onto it!

Check out their front page selection this morning, carefully timed to coincide with the New York Times feature on Steampunk.

Steampunk featured on Etsy

I love the Steampunk look, and if I wasn’t so old and entrenched in suburbia I just might have dabbled…

In any case, the petticoats (and I would want to wear petticoats and corsets) would get in the way of chasing after the kids.

While on the subject of Etsy (but no longer on the subject of Steampunk, which I think I will just continue to admire from afar), I came home with some amazing estate finds on Saturday and I have been busy preparing them for sale in my store. I just posted these beautiful glasses, for example, which I love love love! But I found so much stuff that I just couldn’t keep it all.

Especially as I also bought myself a set of 64 crystal glasses from the same source. There is a glass in there for every occasion, including occasions we never have, and it seems the previous owner never had either. Just how many glasses do we need anyway?  I feel so greedy and decadent!

But they match! Match! Imagine that!

1970s flowery demi-tasse cups on Etsy

Here is the photo I promised of one of the demi-tasse cups which sent me off on a nostalgia trip yesterday. Currently for sale as a set of two through my Etsy Store, where you can also see more pictures…

Flower Power

OK, so today I am getting a little carried away with checking out 1970’s flower designs on Etsy. All because I am preparing a couple of little cups and saucers to list and they are so typical of the times it’s almost painful ;-)

I can’t actually show you the items in question because I haven’t taken photos of them yet (it’s 9.48pm, the light isn’t up to par). I’ll post those tomorrow. In the meantime let’s get those neurons firing with some great vintage finds which will recreate the era.

Let’s start with some fabric from 1Wish1Dream:

This is such a fun exercise. Disclaimer, I was a baby in the early 70s, but I do remember some of these designs hanging around. And of course there are those oh so hilarious family photos.

How about this pants suit? I am sure my mother had a dress something like this:

Moving on, I found these sheets from UncommonEye. I have to say I really like them. Come to think of it, they are scarily similar to something I saw last year at IKEA. Frustratingly, I can’t find it now, but suffice to say that fashion has, once again, come full circle…

How about some housewares? rabbitohrabbit has these. I still can’t get my head around that olive/blue combination, but things being what they are, by next year I will probably love it:

I couldn’t pass up this lovely number from xinemetzger

Yes, I am getting carried away here. I could go on forever. Instead, let me leave you with this stunning number, courtesy of shopatmoxie:

Now I wish this had been an advertising feature masquerading as a blog post, how I wish! There are altogether too many of them these days, people are profiting and it should be me…

Actually, it was only the sight of these acid-bright demi-tasses sitting on the table in front of me. Which I promise I will reveal to you tomorrow :-)

The Daddy just waltzed in and wanted me to donate them to him for his demi-tasse collection, but I said no, The Daddy, hands off! They must have fired off some nostalgic 1970s era neurons for him too :-)
